About
RGM is an independent ministry that was founded by Pastor Massenat and Melinda Ulysse and Melinda’s mother, Patricia Smith in response to the desperate spiritual, physical and social needs they witnessed in Haiti after almost 30 years of service. RGM was founded to join the humanitarian ministry that Patricia Smith and her daughter, Melinda have been doing in Haiti since 1984 and the evangelical ministry that Pastor Massenat has led since the year 2000.
Pastor Massenat Ulysse is a Haitian pastor who was born, raised and educated in Haiti. He received his degree in theology in 2008 but his ministry for the Lord began several years before he finished his studies. As a young man, Pastor Massenat felt the call of the Lord on his life. He was not raised in a Christian family and he grew up experiencing first-hand the horrors and bondage of voodoo and devil worship. When he was yet a teen-ager the Lord called him out of that life and he was saved. From the moment Jesus came into his life, Pastor Massenat felt the burning passion for souls. He began witnessing actively in his community and praying regularly with people in need. By time he graduated from theology training he had already founded 3 churches and turned them over to other pastors. Once graduated, he started travelling all over Haiti teaching youth seminars and preaching revivals and preaching on the radio; he has also served as youth pastor. The Lord has given Pastor Massenat a special gift of prayer and he has been used of the Lord on multiple occasions to cast out demons from persons who are possessed.
As a young child God had revealed to Melinda that she would be serving him as a foreign missionary someday. In 1998 with the call of God still very strong on her heart, Melinda returned to Haiti. Since that time the Lord has used Melinda to do many things for Him including administration and one-on-one witnessing and prayer. He has also used her skills as a nurse. With the assistance of her mother and by God’s grace she has used her nursing skills to save the lives of many babies and children. In the rural areas of Haiti, the health care system is not equipped or developed enough to care for premature or sick newborns or patients requiring intensive care. As a result, many children die because of a lack of care. Over the years many premature and sick infants have been referred to Melinda and her nursing skills have also been used to care for many other children and sometimes adults in need. In 2009 Pastor Massenat and Melinda were married and their ministries joined to become one.

Patricia Smith first felt the call to Haiti in 1983. After helping missionaries in Haiti for the summer of 1983, Patricia Smith returned to the States with a burden on her heart for Haitian children. In 1984, Pat and her eleven year-old, adopted daughter, Melinda, returned to Haiti to make this destitute country their new home. Initially Patricia’s ministry included homeschooling missionary children and actively participating in the local church and ladies missionary group. But in 1988 God brought a change to what she was doing. In August of 1988 God brought the first of many children into the Smith’s home and Haiti Children's Home was opened. During those early years of ministry Melinda worked side-by-side with her mother despite her young age; in 1989 she returned to the US to finish her high school education and pursue her degree in nursing. Patricia remained in Haiti alone to continue the work God had started. Pat remained in Haiti for almost 30 years caring for malnourished, sick and orphaned children. God used Pat to save several hundred children and allowed her the joy of placing children with adoptive families when they could not return to their birth families. Pat kept no record of how many children she cared for over those years, that was left up to God. Her sole motivation was working for the kingdom and saving lives and souls just for the love of it.
Over the years of ministering to souls and caring for children Pastor Massenat, Melinda and Patricia have witnessed first-hand the needs of the Haitian family. Often families are separated due to social or spiritual needs (children are often displaced due inability to provide for them and people are often ‘admitted’ to a witchdoctors shrine for indefinite periods of time due to demon possession or suspected ‘hexes’); following the earthquake of 2010 and the recent devastation of hurricane Matthew the plight of the Haitian community has become even more intense. It has become evident that a ministry to build up Haitian family structure and bring them to wholeness is crucial to the future of the country of Haiti. With that in mind, the focus of RGM is to help families come to Christ, provide spiritual, social and health teaching and care and help to keep the families together. RGM is doing this by partnering with Haitian pastors and lay persons in Haiti and donors in the US to provide sustainable food programs, clean water, and attending to spiritual and medical needs.
RGM operates on a very limited budget and is totally dependent on God to provide for the needs of the ministry and the missionary families. Please keep the ministry of RGM and the Ulysse family and Patricia Smith in your prayers as they continue to share the hope of Jesus with the people of Haiti.
